@Island Man I was taught that this "expanse" of water surrounding our planet was used up in the Great Flood. Thank goodness for the atmosphere being there as a good backup! Phew.

Jupiter protects the earth... another example of intellectual dishonesty and an argument against design
by cognisonance ini'm taking a university astronomy course, and i must say it's really fun to read about this field.
anyway, i remember the jws used to use jupiter (and probably still do) as an example for how unique and special our solar system is (and thus designed) -- namely, that jupiter protects the earth from astroids, comets, and meteors.
convincing if one doesn't know any better, especially circa 1994 when jupiter stepped in front of a comet for us... but this isn't the full story!

Study with an Elder - propose a question.

this study however is more of a session where i put hard questions about the org, doctrine and so on, on the table.
the time has come for the next session in a couple of days, and i have quite frankly lost the will to keep digging up things that just shouldn't be happening.

Hey! Someone posted a list of questions on a thread about a news article pertaining to the upcoming convention where it stated "all questions will be welcomed at this convention," or something. I apologize deeply as I do not remember who the poster of these incredible questions is, but I did copy and paste them into a Word doc to keep handy. This is the poster's list of questions below. If anyone remembers who the author is, please let me know so I can give them the rightful credit.
01. Was C.T. Russel guided by the holy spirit when he predicted the end for 1914 and then changed it to 1915?
02. Was C.T. R. Guided by Gods spirit when he taught phrenology and pyramidology?
03. Why did C.T.R. abandon Nelson Barbour over doctrinal dispute, yet no JW today is allowed to do the same as they will be called apostates and mentally diseased and running ahead of Gods chariot?
04. Why was Rutherford allowed to proclaim himself as a "Judge" and advertised as "Judge" Rutherford if JW's tell everyone that they don't accept titles like Reverend or Father? BTW Rutherford was never an official Judge so why did he lie and no one stopped him?
05. Did God guide Rutherford to predict the end of the world for 1918, 1925 & 1941? If not, where did he get those ideas from?
06. Did the WT refund the money donated by their followers for building a mansion in San Diego for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and others? Why on earth would these prophets want to live in San Diego?
07. If JW's are not a cult, why are JW's obligated to accept without question whatever the GB says is truth even though it may change in a couple of weeks?
08. Why is there no mention of the Douglas Walsh 1954 trial where H.D. Covington admits that the Unity of the WT organization is "unity at all cost" even if it means accepting false doctrine? (See transcript) Any JW refusing to accept what the GB says will be df.
09. The brochure "face the facts" Rutherford predicted that Italy, Japan & Germany would win WW2 and conquer America and its allies. Why didn't this come true if Gods spirit directs the Orgnization?
10. How can the GB demand blind obedience from the followers when they have over 130 yrs of false prophecies?
11. Doesn't Deuteronomy 18:20-22 mean anything to JW's?

I absolutely envy you! Astronomy is a field of science I absolutely love! Our universe just fills me with so much awe. Always has, even when I was a little girl. Speaking of faulty design, I'm sure you're familiar with the Andromeda's collision course with our Milky Way? This galactic collision is predicted to occur in about four billion years. Of course, that's forever away. But if God's purpose is for the earth to "stand to time indefinite" and for the righteous to "possess the earth forever", what sort of a set up is that for our planet?!

Beards a-poppin!
by neat blue dog ini live in a pretty conservative area of the united states, and in the past two decades i can remember 2, that's right, two instances of seeing a jw with a beard in my area.
(not counting myself at times, 😜, and i'm obviously not counting bearded visitors dressed in casual clothes).. however at this year's convention, i saw about a dozen bearded jws .
this is like an explosion where i live.

@tepidpoultry Our Kingdom Hall has five screens. Two at the front, two suspended from the ceiling midway in the hall, and one in the auxiliary/second school. Total saturation for the audience. No escaping the cult propaganda. Only a matter of time before we get mini-screens drilled into the back of each cubical door in the restrooms.

Are you a Christian Who Accepts Evolution?
by cofty inif you identify as a christian but you have accepted that the diversity of life - including humans - resulted from a process of biological evolution could you add your name please?.
just to be clear i am referring to the fact that our physical lineage could literally be traced back all the way to non-human species.. if you like maybe you could comment on why you see not conflict between evolution and your christian faith.. there is a tendency to conflate evolution with atheism.
it would be good to show that this is not the case..

You'd have to believe that for over 100,000 years, heaven looked down with indifference, watching homo sapiens flounder, suffering the most cruel existence (expectation of life: 25 years. Infant mortality: rife. Micro organism diseases: terrifying. Primary cause of death: teeth. Earthquakes and volcanoes: extraordinarily common. Fights over land, territory, food, and women: beyond frightening). And for 98,000 years, heaven remained cold and detached. And then, around 4,000 years ago, in really barbaric, backward, illiterate parts of the Middle East (not in China, by the way, where people could read or think or do science), heaven decides "We can't let this go on. We better intervene." And what better way to do so than via a human sacrifice and plagues and mass murder. Real logical thinking.

chasing me for a report
by Phoebe ini'm fairly new on here and i've told a lot of my story but to recap, after 60 odd years i've stopped going to the meetings.
my husband had already left the truth years ago and my children didn't become jws.(phew!).
i had a horrendous childhood growing up as a witness which included sexual assault by a close relative, also a jw.
